8 paragraph anatomy assignment

Imagine that you are posing while resting on a small, narrow platform that only supports your trunk, neck and head. You are in a horizontal, supine, position. Your limbs are arranged as described below and you have to contract appendicular skeletal muscles to keep them that way, against the force of gravity.

Arrangement of the limbs:

Hands and fingers are flexed
Forearms are pronated
Forearms are extended at the elbow
Arms are vertical (at a 90 degree angle from your trunk)
Thighs are horizontal and adducted
Legs are horizontal (extended)
Feet are dorsiflexed
In addition, to facilitate the position of your upper limbs, your shoulder blades are adducted (retracted).

The assignment: Name and describe the prime mover appendicular muscles (see Prime Mover Skeletal Muscle Info ) or most important appendicular muscle groups (if there are/is no prime mover(s)) necessary to maintain this pose and the innervation of the muscles (see Tables in Tortora Ch. 11 and 17 for innervation of muscles).

Organize your description by the appendicular joint(s) at which movement of the relevant body part occurs.
- There should be 8 paragraphs in your essay, 7 of which correspond to the muscle actions necessary to maintain the pose at the following appendicular joints (include innervation for each muscle!).

1. 1. Fingers/wrist (gross movements caused by forearm muscles – don’t include intrinsic hand muscles)
  2. Distal & proximal radioulnar joints
  3. Elbow
  4. Shoulder
  5. Hip
  6. Knee
  7. Ankle (talocrural joint)
  8. The 8th paragraph should be a description of the muscles involved in maintaining the position of the scapulae during the pose, plus the nerves that innervate them.
  I will provide the text for the Tortora Chapters 11 and 17 as well as the powerpoint that needs to be used. If. you are to use outside sources which I do not recommend but if you need to please create a citation for them .
