Week 3 Project
In a Microsoft Word document of 2-3 pages formatted in APA style, you will describe the final proposal for your capstone project using the format below. Please note that the title and reference pages should not be included in the total page count of your paper.
The introduction establishes the scope, context, and significance of the research being conducted by summarizing current understanding and background information (literature) about the topic, stating the purpose of the work in the form of the research problem and research question(s), explaining briefly the methodological approach used to examine the research problem, and highlights the potential outcomes your study may reveal.
A problem statement is the description of a currently existing issue which needs to be addressed with evidence-based interventions. The statement of the problem is the focal point of the research. Be sure to back up the noted issue/problem with evidence. Must include citations of evidence.
To help you formulate your research question or questions the following website may be useful: https://researchrundowns.com/intro/writing-research-questions/
One or two research questions for your capstone project are suggested. Based on the constraint of project length of 10 weeks you may not have time to address a multitude of questions. One research question may be sufficient for your project and will make your life a lot easier.
The methodology section of a research paper answers two main questions: How were the data collected or generated? You must include when and how you will collect the pre-intervention data, what the intervention(s) is and when/how the intervention(s) will be implemented then how and when you will perform your post-intervention data measurement. Lastly, how the data will be analyzed. A friendly reminder that unless your project has gone through the IRB process you will not be allowed to collect data on more than 3 people. For data collection, you will choose 3 people from your aggregate.
Develop a timetable considering the following questions:
When will your research start and finish?
Are there particular stages to the research – e.g. piloting, then main research? Screening interviews, then a main study? If there are stages, what are they?
What objectives have you set for this investigation? Are they addressed in the timeline?
Is the timetable realistic?
Is it influenced by external constraints or deadlines?
How will you provide regular updates and progress reports and to whom will you provide them? How will you demonstrate progress?

Week 1 Midweek Assignment
The purpose of this capstone project is to gather information regarding facility procedures and gather an understanding of how specific dynamics that may be controlled within private child care, can help minimize the potential of introduction/possible spread of COVID-19 during the current pandemic. The specific community chosen is the population of residential/commercial childcare recipients and their families, as well as the staff of the institution… Sunshine Childcare operates 24 hours a day and is located in a residential home, in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, adequately enabled to serve 25 kids, with a range of ages between 7 months and 14 years old, 92% Hispanic, 4% Afro-Americans and 4% Native Americans.
The working staff is constituted by two direct care providers and occasional maintenance workers, who are overseen by the director, which is the owner.
Under the current COVID-19 pandemic circumstances, Sunshine Childcare has implemented the following infection control measures: hand washing and use of hand sanitizer during the day, use of a facial mask for kids above 3 years old, prohibiting outside visitors and parents dropping off their kids from entering into the facility. The only exception applies to authorities from Children Youth and Family Division, essential medical personal needed for the kids and emergency maintenance personnel.
“Based on available evidence, children do not appear to be at higher risk for COVID-19 than adults” (CDC, 2020) However, it is important to note that implementation of infection control measures within the chosen community constitute of great significance because since is a new disease we are learning about it every day.
The project aims to analyze the needs of education to staff and families in the implementation of measures to prevent the introduction and/or break the chain of transmission within their homes, the community, and inside the facility. Each family must implement a closed environment and follows the mandatory statute of social distance.
Outcomes from this study will serve to reveal which additional measures can be implemented in Sunshine Childcare, as well as aspects of the education needed from the staff and families to prevent the transmission.
Sunshine Childcare has implemented restriction guidelines regarding outside visitors and parent’s ability to access the actual building when they drop their children off and pick them up. Besides, they enforce the use of the facial mask for staff, parents, and children over 3 years old, as well as hand washing and hand sanitizer. The problem lies when we try to prevent contagion not only to/from children, but also from their families and staff even outside the facility, as well as to identify what aspects of the education are needed and what additional procedures and resources may be suitable to implement in the institution.
“No matter the level of transmission in a community, every child care program should have a plan in place to protect staff, children, and their families from the spread of COVID-19” (CDC, 2020).
Which are the education needs, what other measures can be implemented, and what resources may be available to avoid the increase of the possibility of introduction of COVID-19 into the private Sunshine Childcare?
The information to be collected is the correlation between current guidelines and the actual measures already implemented in Sunshine Childcare. Also, we will assess the level of education regarding COVID19 prevention in the population under study. We will research the availability of resources accessible to the childcare institution that may assist in an increase in quality education and/or prevention of the COVID-19 topic.
The research will start on June 5, 2020, and finish on August 13, 2020
The main research and ongoing gathering of data will be used, including any current cases documented, if any.
The objectives of this investigation are to:
Identify the education needs for children, families, staff, and executives of the institution regarding infection control related o COVID 19
Develop a plan to implement essential strategies to provide education to the population chosen
I do believe the timetable to be realistic to current situations regarding COVID-19 our society
There are no current constraints or deadlines.
Analyze how the gap on the education and/or the current guidelines increase the potential of introduction/spread of COVID-19 into this community, and to identify possible resources available for them to maximize the prevention labor.
Regular updates will include biweekly meetings and tracking of date with the preceptor and facility administrators. Progress will be tracked through graphing of data and information, amongst other possible methods that may be suggested by the preceptor and facility.
