P3.a. Draw the circuit diagram and design a bridge rectifier AC-DC converter with a 12 V voltage regulator to deliver12 VDC with a ripple of 1 mV for a load current of 0.5 A

· Design means to find the regulator part number, the capacitor value and the ratio of the turns in the transformer. Hint: You have to check the datasheet of the regulator chip. If you want 10 mV ripple at the output, find how much should be the ripple at the input (based on the typical value of the ripple rejection ratio in the datasheet). Knowing the ripple before the regulator and the load current you can find the capacitance from the ripple equation. Also, from datasheet you will find Vdrop which means the minimum voltage difference between the input and the output. If output is supposed to be 12 V the minimum voltage at the input of the regulator has to be 12V+Vdrop. On the other hand, this voltage has to be equal to Vp-Vr (the minimum voltage at the capacitor). Then you can find Vp and calculate the transformer ratio.

P3.b. Calculate the Peak Inverse Voltage, average and max current through the diode.

P4. Make a table and list the capacitance value, iDave, and iDmax for problems 1,2, and 3.
