women and obesity

This is what I have so far if you could please go off of my introduction. My topic is on women and obesity. What causes women to become obese? My four psychological domains that I am using for this integrative literature review are Domain- 1: Biological (includes neuroscience, consciousness, and sensation), Domain 3: Development (includes learning and conditioning, lifespan development, and language), Domain 4: Social and Personality (includes the study of personality, emotion, motivation, gender, and culture) and Domain 5: Mental and Physical Health (includes abnormal psychology, therapy, and health psychology) If you could please do the Discussion which includes the analysis, critique, synthesis and conclusion.

These are the instructions:

Integrative Literature Review

The primary goal of this literature review is to integrate concepts from four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. The four content domains should be chosen from previous coursework in this program. In this paper, students will review the findings in the individual empirical articles, organize the research in a meaningful way, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings, and present an integrated synthesis of the research that sheds new light on the topics within and across the four domains.

The result of a successful integrative literature review may be a significant contribution to a particular body of knowledge and, consequently, to research and practice. Therefore, before writing this literature review, substantive new research must be conducted via the Internet and within the Ashford University Library for each of the four chosen domains. A minimum of six sources must be included for each of the four domains. Although content from literature reviews completed in prior courses within this program may be included, it may not constitute the total research for the individual domains addressed within this assignment. No more than four sources from previous literature reviews completed in this program may be utilized for this integrative review.

The headings listed below must be used within the paper to delineate the sections of content. These sections include the following: a clear introduction that provides a general review and organizes the research in a meaningful way; a discussion in which the evidence is presented through analysis, critique, and synthesis; and a conclusion in which the discussion is drawn together in a meaningful way, the claims of the introduction are brought to a logical closure, and new research is proposed.

Introduction

Obesity is a growing problem in the United States. A person is considered obese when their weight surpasses the normal weight of a person’s height (CDC, 2019). An individual with a body mass index of 30 or more falls in the level of obese (CDC, 2019). More than 60% of grown people that reside in the America and Europe are considered obese with a body mass index of greater than 30 (Lakhan & Kirchgessner, 2013). There are so many reasons why people gain so much weight. Women are becoming more and more obese. Females between the ages of 40 and 59 years old (44.7%) showed a more elevated occurrence than females between ages of 20 and 39 years old (36.5%) of obesity (CDC, 2019). There are several causes why women are becoming obese, like genetic reasons, neuron activity reasons, cultural reasons, socioeconomic, gender, psychological reasons, developmentally, lack of exercise and personality traits. Obesity is associated with diabetes, heart problems, and hypertension. In actuality, the increase in diabetes seems to be growing simultaneously as with the growth to that of obesity (Lakhan & Kirchgessner, 2013). The crisis in the united states isn’t any less critical because 65% of grown people approximately 130 million individuals either weigh more than the average weight or obese with an estimation of $117 billion leading the price of obesity the health issue in the country (Cottam, 2004).The specific problem is that more and more women are becoming obese because they are affected by everyday life issues, the foods they consume, genetic reasons, social and physical reasons. Women wear many hats on a daily basis and some women hardly find the time to stop and care for themselves. The purpose of this study is to find the reasons why women become obese, find treatments to help reduce obesity and find assistance for women to prevent obesity. The articles found in the Ashford online library will help explain the reasons why women turn out to be obese and the treatments that are out there that will help decrease obesity or stop it. Between Hispanic, Asians that were non- Hispanic, non-Hispanic black grown-ups, females had a more elevated occurrence of obesity compared to men (CDC, 2019). I would search for any reasons that cause obesity in women and to see if we could get to the root of the problem. Also, I would investigate the treatments that are out there to help lower, manage and prevent obesity. Through previous studies that relate obesity and women will help my investigation by learning the factors that may be the cause women becoming obese and what therapies are more effective for obesity. I’m hoping to find that for each factor of obesity in women that the right treatment will be available to help with the situation and lower health risks, as well. The pieces of writing examined in this investigation were obtained from the library of the University of Ashford and Pubmed. Several articles were found in these sites that included a relationship between women and obesity. A Google search on the association of women and obesity was also carried out and so much information popped out, but most of it was not evidence based or they were not reliable sources. The one website that did help out with the investigation that contained useful facts and statistics was the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. Only about 30 (n=30) articles were useful for the purpose of this study on the causes of obesity in women and treatments for obesity. Many of the studies utilized quantitative and qualitative methods, questionnaires, inventories, scales, medical history, BMI, demographics, and cognitive assessments. The frequency of grown-ups who are obese in America was 39.8% (CDC, 2019). Obesity is becoming an epidemic, especially in women which needs to be stopped. Maybe after finding the reasons that cause obesity in women and with the right therapies to help reduce obesity, it can be stopped.

There are several areas of psychology, but the four that will be used in this piece of writing will be the area of developmental, biological, social and personality, and physical and mental health. The biological area consists of genetics, neuroscience, psychopharmacology (de Jong, 2002). The approach of a biological view is that a behavior is done by the genetics, body defenses, brain, and central nervous system (de Jong, 2002). The area of developmental in psychology has to do with the learning of the distinctions of a person interiorly and the way a person transforms interiorly throughout their life (Gorman and Caviness). The social and personality domain is the belief that in order to comprehend the reasons and character of a person’s actions in circumstances that are social and the way a person thinks and behaves makes them distinctive (lumen learning). Mental and physical health areas are the belief that the wellbeing of a person is that of body and that of mind.

The way that all these areas work together is that biological psychology effect mental wellbeing and a person’s behavior. They are all connected through behavior and thought, a person thinks, acts, because of different reasons the play a role in psychology. The domain of biological psychology is associated to the other domains in that it helps people understand how a person feels physically or mentally, learns and behaves because of the central nervous system. Developmental psychology is linked to the other psychological domains which are as important to understand because it explains to us how a person grows mentally, cognitively, physically and how behavior changes throughout the rest their life. Another domain is social psychology which is associated to the other three domains in how a person behaves, changes, and learns around other people. The psychological area of mental health and physical health are linked to biological, social, and developmental psychology in that the mind and the body are always growing, are run by the central nervous system, and are around others.

In the biological psychology heredity is the belief that children physically and mentally inherit their characteristics and appearances from their parents. The history behind behaviorism was founded on the mental health sciences of Skinner’s hard effort (Minshawi, Hurwitz, Morriss & McDougle, 2015).Skinner’s “operant conditioning is the process by which the immediate consequences of behavior serve to strengthen or weaken that behavior overtime” (Minshawi, Hurwitz, Morriss & McDougle, 2015, p. 1543). The famous theory of classical conditioning by Ivan Pavlov about how the dog drooled as it heard a bell make a jingle by starting using food as bait which the dog learned to link the jingle of the bell with food and the drooling began. Charles Darwin has contributed so much to the area of psychology, but two of his contributions in developmental and biological psychology that will be discussed in this piece of writing are natural selection and evolution. Darwin explained that he found that a lot of the genes are similar in animals and people. He purposed that people came about from animals, but many disagree. His findings are a huge assistance in the area of psychology in research because many studies utilize animals since they have similar genes. Also, his natural selection findings help intrigue why only a few animals out lived other animals due to breeding successfully and these animals were seen as being more attractive than those who were not as successful at breeding. Social learning theory founded by Albert Bandura who explains that a person learns by observing others which they in turn do the same act that was performed by the one the person that they were observing. The social learning theory is utilized by developmental and social psychologists. The theory of sociocultural explains how an environment influences a person’s beliefs, behavior, and thinking by its traditions.

“materialism which is attentive to the physical substance of bodies and of the world more generally” (McNeil, M. (2010).

Nagel’s is the latest in what has become a small cottage industry involving a handful of prominent senior philosophers expressing skepticism about aspects of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection (LEITER, B., & WEISBERG, M. (2012).
