The purpose of this discussion is to share an article I researched through a database, explain the process, and pros/cons of the database of chose to my colleagues. The article of I chose focused on a study for treatment of children and parent involvement with their treatment plan for ADHD. I chose this article because I see children with ADHD, and their struggles on a daily basis as a school nurse. I also assist parents and educators with medical appointments and documentation needed for treatment. I also communicate with physicians and families, as an advocate for students and their education. This article focuses on minorities, and on average I would say half of the population I serve is African American.

I started searching different databases through the Walden Library. I read some articles through Proquest. Then I searched through CINAHL. I found both to be pretty user friendly and easy to navigate through. I preferred the advanced search method in CINAHL. I entered peer reviewed, scholarly journals, and the patient population I wanted my search to focus on. I chose pediatrics because that would hopefully be my area of focus if I am able to complete this program. I then searched through different articles it pulled for this population until I found something I could relate to in my current area of practice. I did however find a lot of good, and useful information.

I also used the resources given to use for this module. The article related to Evaluating Resources: Journals stood out to me. I like how it broke down how to identify a journal article with information obtained through the database. I also found it helpful in defining the journal types. Scholarly journals are written by academics for academics, and are generally focused on a specific academic field or discipline (Evaluating Resources: Journals, n.d.). These are the type of articles that will be helpful to use throughout our educational course.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend CINAHL to my colleagues. It was easy to navigate and covers many different areas of nursing. Using the advanced search technique you can narrow down to these specific fields and easily find what you are looking for.
